History


Midtown encompasses a broad area of Manhattan in New York. Like many other parts of Manhattan, during the 1600s Midtown experienced a high influx of Dutchman and their wives escaping the British rule. Throughout its history, Manhattan has been the scene of an entire nation's founding. Only until 1783, did the British forces finally leave what is today Midtown and wider Manhattan. In 1790, New York City is the place where the federal government was first created. Only about 33,000 people lived in New York City at this point.

During the 1920s, Midtown East experienced the high influx of many more people. The Industrial Revolution brought hundreds of thousands of people to New York. Today, Midtown is home to more upper-class working individuals in Manhattan. Many students, young business professionals, and families choose to live in Midtown for its upscale lifestyle for a fraction of the price.

Midtown East runs from 6th Avenue to the East River. It includes Sutton Place, a very high-class city in Manhattan. It also includes Tudor City and Turtle Bay. Midtown East is home to Grand Central Station, a major area of transportation within the city. While it is not the most glamorous area of New York, Midtown East does boast great hotels and restaurants. Many mid-rise and high-rise apartment structures can also be found in Midtown East.
